Bobby Dale Johnson, 52, of Amarillo died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hillside Christian Church Chapel with the Rev. Roy Wheeler, associate pastor, and the Rev. Wyley Chaney, associate minister of Rockwell Road Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Bobby Dale was born March 28, 1956, in Amarillo to Dale and Joan Johnson. He was a 1974 graduate of Amarillo High School.
After graduating, he worked at Hedgecoke Motor Co. and Pantex before beginning his long career at BNSF Railway as a conductor for 32 years. During vacations from BNSF, he worked for Boots N' Jeans Western Wear for many years. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church.
Bobby Dale was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and his many, many friends. He was kindhearted, generous and his love and compassion for others was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Bobby Dale lived each day of his life as if it were his last. He was a motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed road trips, rallies and four-wheeling. He loved all kinds of music, dancing, auto racing, RVing and coaching Little League baseball and basketball.
Bobby Dale was a devoted volunteer for many organizations, including the MakeA-Wish Foundation, Family Support Services and many other charities and also planned and organized many memorial events.
He was definitely one of a kind and will be dearly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his father, Weldon Dale Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Tina Johnson of Amarillo; a daughter, Amber Dee Crickett Johnson-Linker and husband Dustin of Lubbock; a son, Dustin Dale Johnson of Amarillo; his mother, Joan Wagner of Amarillo; a sister, Diane Nugent of Frisco; a brother, Rick Johnson of Amarillo; a stepson, Chris Broughton of Montgomery, Ala.; a stepdaughter, Brittany Schultz and husband Travis of College Station; five grandchildren, Chloe Johnson, Jayson and Kooper Smith and Harlie Linker, all of Lubbock, and Brek Dale Johnson of Amarillo; and his best friend of many years, Brenda Fox of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials be to Jerol Morris Scholarship Foundation, in care of Wellington State Bank, P.O. Box 1032, Wellington, TX 79095; or Special Olympics, 203 W. Eighth Ave., Suite 400, Amarillo, TX 79101.
