Sgt. Avery Sechrist

Avery F Sechrest was the area supervisor of recruiting for Zone III. He was non-commissioned officer in charge of logistics for the Saigon area. He received the Army Commendation Medal in 1965 for his work in recruiting before shipping to Viet Nam. He recruited 371 men in a four year period in the Phoenix-Mesa, AZ area. A veteran of 38 months in the South Pacific during WWII, Sgt. Sechrest was in the battle of Iow Jima. He was in the Amphibious Artillery Battalion that followed US Marine invasions.
